Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz ? FC Barcelona 2-8, 6-15Game 1: FCB 100 024 001* 8 13 0 Box score Twelve months ago the FC Barcelona weren?t able to travel to Tenerife, got charged with two losses by the Spanish federation and in the end lost the championship. This time around they picked up two wins instead. In game one of the doubleheader on Saturday Barcelona won by a score of 8-2 thanks to a brilliant outing of starter Jason Friedman (W 2-0) and a combined six runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Friedman only gave up two walks through the first seven innings. A leadoff homerun by Javier Flores in the eighth ended the no-hit bid. Orlando and Albert Diaz led the offense with three hits apiece. Orlando had a solo homerun. Albert drove in two. Leslie Nacar (L 2-1) was charged with a rare loss, allowing seven runs (5 ER) on ten hits in seven innings, striking out nine. Pitcher Delio Miguel Martinez (closed it out in the eighth and ninth) and Oscar Angulo (0-5, run) made their debuts for Barcelona. Game 2: FCB 000 071 304* 15 15 1 Box score Game two between the Spanish powerhouses turned into a slugfest with each team picking up 15 hits. However the FC Barcelona managed to scored 15 runs, while the Marlins where limited to six. The team of manager Aldo Tarife overcame an early 0-3 deficit after three innings due to a seven-run rally in the fifth. Seven more runs in the last three frames blew the game wide open. Orlando Diaz again was right in the middle of the action, collecting five RBI. Oscar Angulo drove in three. Felix Isasi went 4-for-4 with four runs scored. Leadoff hitter Emmanuel Febles crossed the plate three times. Richard Montiel and Luis Landaeta led the Puerto Cruz offense with a combined seven hits, three homeruns, four runs and five RBI. Pedro Belmonte (W 2-0) gave up twelve hits, five runs and two walks in eight innings. Ivan Granados (L 2-1) issued nine hits, eight runs (7 ER) and two bb in five-plus innings. Barcelona is now in second place in the standings with a 4-0 record. The Marlins dropped to fourth. CB Sant Boi ? San Inazio Bilbao 8-1, 8-5Game 1: INA 000 001 000* 1* 5 1 Box score Sant Boi also stayed undefeated in week three of the new season in the Spanish Division de Honor. Against San Inazio they collected 15 hits in an 8-1 win in game one on Saturday. Junior Guerra (W 2-0) got the start over Jose Guanchez, who pitched in relief this time. Guerra struck out eleven batters in seven strong innings, allowing just an unearned run on four hits and two walks. Jose Luis Riera and William Domero led the offense with two homeruns and five RBI combined. Fidel Torres Mane (L 0-3) was charged with the loss after five innings, ten hits, five runs (4 ER) and two bb. Game 2: INA 013 000 010* 5* 6 6 Box score In the second match on Sunday morning CB had to work a lot harder to pick up the victory. Bilbao took a 4-1 lead in the top of the third frame, but Sant Boi came back with a pair of three-run rallies in the fifth and seventh innings to seal an 8-5 win. Rafael Rivas and Daniel Martinez crossed the plate three times apiece. They also profited from a bad guest defense with five of the eight runs being unearned. Tony Granadillo scored twice for San Inazio. Jose Estebin Cruz (W 2-0) issued five hits, five runs (1 ER) and four bb in seven innings. Alberto Magallon (L 1-2) gave up ten hits, eight runs (3 ER) and two walks in six-plus innings. Astros Valencia ? CB Viladecans 9-5, 8-15Game 1: VIL 012 010 000* 5 8 3 Box score The Astros continued to impress during the 2010 season in the Division de Honor. In week three they split a doubleheader against Viladecans and moved into third place in the standings with a 4-2 record. In game one on Sunday Valencia erased an early 0-3 deficit with two four-run innings on their way to a 9-5 win. Sandel Cuevas had the big bat in the lineup, going 2-for-4 with five RBI. Kevin Malone drove in two. Three players scored twice. CB?s shortstop Camilo Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with a homerun, two runs scored and two RBI. He missed the cycle by a single. John Scott Dunn (W 3-0) allowed seven hits, five runs and two walks in eight innings. He struck out nine. Fabian Marquez (L 0-3) surrendered six hits, eight runs (4 ER) and seven bb in five-plus innings. He also collected nine Ks. Game 2: VIL 300 900 003* 15 16 0 Box score In game two Viladecans won 15-8 to settle for the split against the Astros. They scored three fast runs in the opening period and blew it wide open in the fourth with a nine-run rally. Valencia tried to come back and answered with eight runs through the next three frames. But it was not enough and CB sealed the victory with another three-run spot in the ninth. Denny Nino homered for Viladecans. Five players scored twice, five drove in two. Sandel Cuevas and John Scott Dunn went deep for the Astros. Pol Llopis (W 1-1) picked up his first win of the season. He allowed seven hits, five runs and five walks in five innings. Jorge Gomez (L 0-1) conceded ten hits, twelve runs (9 ER) and two bb in three-plus innings. Halcones de Vigo ? Baseball Navarra 0-5, 3-5Game 1: NAV 020 001 101* 5 7 2 Box score Navarra improved to 3-3 with two wins in Vigo. In game one of the doubleheader on Saturday, Juan Jose Lopez (W 2-1) struck out 15 batters in seven one-hit innings to lead his club to a 5-0 shutout. He gave up just a double and an intentional walk in the fourth. Hector Perozo closed out the one-hitter with two scoreless innings. Just two more Halcones base runners reached on errors. The Navarra offense received a helping hand from the Vigo defense. Especially third baseman Marcos Trillo had a horrible day at the hot corner, committing four errors. All four led directly or shortly after to one or multiple runs. Rafael Gomera (L 1-1) conceded six hits, four runs (1 ER) and three walks in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out seven. Game 2: NAV 010 012 001* 5 10 2 Box score In the second portion of the twin bill, Navarra built up a 4-0 lead through six innings before Halcones tried to come back, cutting the deficit to 3-4 after eight. But in the end the guests prevailed 5-3. The 17-year-old Javier Miguel Marte went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and two RBI. Victor Martinez scored twice. Jose Morales hit a two-run homerun for Vigo. Andres Casado (W 1-1) gave up four hits and two runs in 6 2/3 innings. Diego Corvalan (L 0-2) was responsible for seven hits, four runs (2 ER) and three bb in six innings. CD Pamplona ? El Llano 8-2, 18-8 (7)Game 1: LLA 000 101 000* 2 6 3 Box score CD Pamplona had not much problems to pick up its first sweep of the 2010 season in the Division de Honor. Against El Llano they celebrated two lopsided wins. In game one of the doubleheader on Saturday Marcos Castillo (W 1-2) struck out 13 batters in eight innings to lead CD to an 8-2 victory. He allowed six hits, two runs (1 ER) and two bb. The offense had taken over in the third, scoring six runs. Juan Latienda went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Urtzi Martorell scored twice. Nuevo De La Cruz (L 0-2) gave up six unearned runs on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings. Game 2: LLA 201 300 2** 8 9 8 Box score In the second part of the twin bill both teams scored three times in the first three innings. After El Llano added three runs in the top of the fourth, Pamplona answered with six in the bottom of the same frame. They blew the game wide open in the sixth with a nine-run rally, which led to an early ending after seven innings. Gary Martinez, Junior Mejia and Jose San Martin combined to drive in ten runs. Juan Latienda scored three times for CD. Elvis Polanco and Edward Obispo had two RBI each for the team from Gijon. Juan Redin (W 2-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Eneko Del Burgo, allowing two hits, two runs (1 ER) and a walk in four innings.
