Miguel A. Gonzalez and Yadiel Pedroso combined to allow just one hit and two walks to lead Cuba to a 10-0 shutout in seven innings over Japan on Wednesday at the World Port Tournament in Rotterdam. Gonzalez struck out five in five innings. Pedroso sat down four on K?s in the remaining two frames. The offense blew the game wide open in the sixth through six runs. Leonys Martin went two-for-four with a homerun, a double and four RBI. Adonis Garcia drove in three. Takehiko Tsuji was charged with nine hits, nine runs (8 ER) and two bb in 5 1/3 innings.

After losing the first four games at the Familie Stadium in Rotterdam, the Netherlands won their second in a row on Wednesday, prevailing 2-1 against Taiwan. They took a fast 1-0 lead in the opening frame on a RBI single by Raily Legito. They doubled the score in the fifth, when Zair Koeiman stole home. Taiwan threatened to come back in the ninth, reducing the deficit to a run with a RBI single by Hsin-Min Wang, but Ming-Jen Kuo flied out to right field to end the game. Diegomar Markwell struck out seven in 7 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing seven hits and a walk for the win. Chih-Lung Huang conceded five hits, two runs and three bb in seven innings to take the loss.
